Much of the city's history is tied to the Canadian Pacific Railway and the logging industry. Today, the city's economy is still heavily dependent on those two influences, but the construction of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, as well as other outdoor entertainment companies, has allowed the city to venture into tourism. Mount 7, located just southeast of the city, is popular with paragliding, hang gliding, and mountain bike enthusiasts. The village is part of the Golden Triangle cycle.
Kicking the Horse Bridge
The Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge is Canada's longest timber bridge. Organized as a community project by the Timber Framers Guild, volunteers from Golden are joined by carpenters and woodworkers from the United States and Europe. The bridge structure is 46 meters (150 ft) tall, with a 95-pound (210,000 lb) Burr building. The bridge was completed in September 2001.
Gold is built on the Rocky Mountain Trench, located at the confluence of the Columbia and Kicking Horse rivers, surrounded by three distinct mountains (mainly the Purcell Mountains and Rocky Mountains) and five National Parks: Yoho National Park, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Glacier National Park, and Kootenay National Park
Golden is located on Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) and is the northern station of Highway 95, connecting the United States through the entire East Kootenay region with the city of Cranbrook, British Columbia (BC Highway 95 is a continuation of US Route 95, running from north to south via US to Mexico). The Trans-Canada Highway east of Golden has many development projects that continue to significantly improve the road west of the Yoho National Park border. Part of the Ten Mile Hill project has just been completed and represents a major overhaul of the old highway.
Golden has a job-based economy, relying heavily on tourism and tourist services. Unlike many other Canadian cities with a large population, Golden has nine car repair shops that offer a variety of services and are open for hours. Golden also has a large number of hotels with mountain views that provide accommodation for tourists and homeless drivers.
Although the overall size of the transportation, manufacturing and logistics have grown in the past year, Mississauga Ontario’s economy is shifting to a more of a “smart economy”. Although times have changed and the way transportation and logistics function has also changed, one thing has remained true: We will need things and trucks to bring us those things. Just Dynafix is here to make sure we support and grow with technology and provide more value to our transportation and logistics customers. Wherever the freight moves we will be there to make sure we are doing our part!
